The Fountain on Locust Restaurant Review:

Around lunchtime, The Fountain is a fun-loving, family-friendly stop for Polish dill pickle soup, red onion-orange salad, and sandwiches like spicy pulled pork with cranapple-orange chutney. Sunlight streams in, illuminating owner Joy Christensen’s larger-than-life Art Deco murals. Her rehab of a 1916 auto showroom in Midtown’s Locust business district has an artistic verve that extends all the way to the restroom. Late afternoon brings the soda fountain crowd. Ice creams (everything from coconut to Zanzibar chocolate) are lush, and the house-made soda flavors tickle the taste buds. It’s fortunate that the pineapple inside-out cake is served in a cup, with its rich sponge cake with buttered brown sugar sauce, ice cream and whipped cream. As the day wears on, most patrons need no excuse to indulge in an ice cream martini or retro cocktail with a special someone in a wooden booth, tucked back into the corner. Pages of options, from shippable hot toddies to quirky concoctions like Love Potion #9 (vanilla ice cream, Frangelico and Chambord), make this a romantic hangout after theater and symphony dates in nearby Grand Center.
