Putting its own spin on the conventional pizza pie, Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill features a surprisingly diverse menu including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Located along swanky El Paseo, Sammy’s features the expected pizza varieties along with some unexpected toppings, such as burrata and pesto; garlic shrimp; and smoked Gouda with barbecue sauce. But pizza isn’t the only thing that’s done well. Duck tacos, topped with feta and napa cabbage, have a slightly gamey taste. Shrimp and grits features Spanish chorizo, Swiss chard and smoked provolone. And the lobster bisque proves to be a creamy starter. Salads, burgers and wraps are on offer, too, all served in a modern setting with plush booths and an open-air patio.
