Savage Pizza Restaurant Review:

Savage Pizza remains a funky neighborhood favorite despite the ongoing gentrification of its surroundings. The New York-style thin crust is crisp and yeasty, on both the pies and the calzones, and whole-wheat crust is an option. The latter is particularly good with the Pizza Fresca, with its mozzarella, Parmesan, feta, garlic, tomato and fresh basil. The Cordon Bleu, with roasted chicken and prosciutto, is well done and unique; so is the Cajun, with andouille sausage and Gruyère. We're especially fond of the white pizza, with several cheeses, to which we add prosciutto and caramelized onions. Chicken Florentine, with spinach, three cheeses and chicken, may be one of the better pies. Classicists, however, will argue that there are too many ingredients on a single pie. And, of course, you may style your own, thus over-embellishing one even further. Solo slices are an option before 5 p.m. Sub sandwiches, lasagna (including a vegetable version) and salads also are available. For dessert, check out the New York-style cheesecake.
