Twenty Five Lusk Restaurant Review:

Tucked down a SoMa alleyway, this restaurant designed by Cass Calder Smith has an enormous lounge with a sweeping bar, plush couches and futuristic Scandinavian fire orbs downstairs, and a main dining room upstairs that blends glass, wood, steel, brick and stone to evince industrialized sophistication. Booths and tables are scattered across the asymmetrical floor and offer unexpected privacy. Chef Matthew Dolan creates and executes dishes with similar ingenuity, turning tradition at a slight angle. Kusshi oysters are served in the shell atop a pebbling of peanuts finished with lime sorbet for an interesting combination of flavors and textures. Grilled octopus, always an indication of a chef’s talent, comes with the right amount of grilled exterior and firm-but-soft interior, and with the intriguing addition of tempura bacon. Mains run from traditional day boat scallops, well executed but no more so than anywhere else, to a nice grilled Amish rabbit served with sheep’s butter fondue. Desserts are varied and artful and the chef rises to the challenge of sugar-free, or other, requests. Our dessert included brûlée kiwi and cheese mousse, an enjoyable ending. Cocktail and wine lovers will appreciate both extensive lists.
