THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Yakuza’s modern furnishings and muted lighting promote a cocktail lounge feel. Drinks are varied and stiff, ranging from craft cocktails to beer or wine, or choose from an entire wall of sakés. The Yakuza are considered Japanese mafia, so it's not surprising a restaurant named after them isn't afraid to break some rules. For example, the signature dish is the all-American burger, or the Yakuza burger served with a layer of chèvre, house-made ketchup, mayo and crisp shoestring fries packed right into the bun. The rest of the menu is more Asian in character, ranging from Kobe tartare to inventive sushi rolls (think minced steelhead, spicy mayo, scallions and truffle fries), deep-fried kimchi, chilled soba noodles, tempura (including a version with scallops) and a kale salad. Except for the burger, portions are of the “small plate” variety. Surprisingly welcoming to children, there’s even a “kids’ happy hour” Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings that offers chicken, shrimp or pork katsu. Insiders know about the back patio that's a secret garden during warm weather.
