A two-tone Mercury Monterey model sets the tone streetside at this Southtown gastropub. There’s more seating outdoors than in, but wherever you end up, the place will seem effortlessly hipper than thou. There’s a good beer list, to which wines are catching up, and the food has evolved markedly since opening day. A dish as simple as "Different Kinds of Pickles" is modestly virtuosic, Brussels sprouts with sweet chile and peanuts are unexpectedly addictive, and while the chicken meatballs with yogurt may be merely good, the clams in lamb broth with pig’s ear bacon are a revelation. Skillfully rendered pork rillettes are a good starter, especially when paired with a Texas brew; though it may sound tricky, the blue-cheese filled and topped “pop tart” makes for an equally rewarding ender. Servers are well-informed and spare you the attitude that can so often make a consciously cool place a chore to endure.
