Just off Michigan Avenue (and a few doors away from the Hard Rock Hotel), this location of Morton's---a Chicago-born and -bred steakhouse---has a lunch business that booms like a culinary cannon. Of course, the dinner business makes a bang as well. Morton's is all about steaks (and they are great), salads and sides with a couple of seafood items thrown in. The originator of the show-and-tell tableside menu, Morton's lays it on thick. But it's a good thick, and it's a fine place for good food and a good time. We favor the bone-in rib-eye and the strip steak au poivre. Chopped salad is a meal in its own. The best appetizer is the colossal (that word is used a lot on the printed menu) shrimp cocktail. Potatoes and veggies are à la carte. Nothing like a lush and rich piece of cheesecake to wind up a steakhouse dinner. Then again, the soufflé is as good as you will find anywhere. |
