This Aspen classic that has remained popular for over 40 years. The ambience is light-hearted mining town Victorian with paintings of turn-of-the century lovelies inspiring romance with a soupçon of Eros. Located next door to the Wheeler Opera House, this is a fine pre- or post-theater spot. The big wooden bar serves generous drinks and good wines by the glass and is populated with a range of the kind of characters found only in Aspen. The flatteringly lit and prettily decorated main room always has a lively buzz with big round tables in the middle often filled with old friends who’ve been coming here for decades. Or you may like to tuck into a table for two by the fireplace in the tiny room off the bar. The large salads are meals in themselves. And the entrées of Italian pasta, fresh seafood, fine steaks and veal are fresh and imaginatively prepared.
