| Ernest Hemingway, after whom this healthy café was named, would probably scratch his head at the sight of the menu with all its tofu, soy cheese and organic veggies. We, however, don't come here to discuss literature, politics, art or philosophy---and we do like the menu items, which are prepared with enough flavor to make up for what they lack in fat. Try any of the south-of-the-border specialties like enchiladas verduras (with tofu, soy cheese and grilled shrimp or chicken) or the fajitas (made with beefy-tasting portobello mushrooms). Pasta dishes like the chipotle cappellini and the pasta primavera make great use of vegetables. And what would a health-food restaurant be without a full line of meat-free burgers? Besides vegetable- and grain-based versions, there are less radical shrimp and chicken burgers, too. Indulge in roasted chicken (billed as a natural bird, of course) served with mashed potatoes and greens, or the herb-encrusted rainbow trout, served over a bed of organic brown rice with a heap of grilled vegetables. |
