Mundaka Spanish Restaurant Restaurant Review

: There’s something about the atmosphere of this tapas joint that feels perpetually suspended in the wee hours of the morning. We mean this in a good way; if “hangover food” were its own cuisine, Mundaka would be its shrine. From the truffle-salted deep-fried garbanzo beans to the albondigas (chorizo meatballs served with saffron couscous and clams), everything is savory and made for sharing. Don’t miss the boquerones, white anchovies with garlic chips and a hint of acid that could change any skeptic's mind about the wee fishes. The duck confit and lamb “hamburguesa” pack powerful punches of flavor. Try the candy cap mushroom flan for an unusual and sweet finish to your meal. Chef Brandon Miller is meticulous about ingredients; per the menu, diners won't find “antibiotics, hormones, pesticides, high fructose corn syrup, artificial anything" on the plate. There is a corresponding lack of pretense: parents bring their kids in as a matter of course; hipsters talk with old-timers at the bar --- to paraphrase an old screenplay, “everybody comes to Mundaka.”
