Nob Hill Bar & Grill Restaurant Review: Whipping up cheeky twists on comfort food in an ideal location smack in the heart of Nob Hill, this contemporary bar and grill was bound to be a smash. And so it is. After all, the look is sleek, the crowd young and lively, and the New American menu a regularly updated blast. Appetizers are especially fun and funky: think bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers modernized with pineapple and pecans, batter-fried green beans that --- served in a cone with blue cheese and chile con queso --- one-up your standard french fries, and pine nut-crusted sticks of smoked mozzarella. More smoked mozz oozes from the bacon-sprinkled meatloaf (of which even the half-portion is plenty). And the signature veggie burger is a treat, made with edamame and mushrooms and spread with ginger-lime mayo. For dessert, try the waffle cone containing Guinness ice cream topped with Jameson’s whiskey caramel, or the house-made marshmallow sandwiched with Mexican chocolate ice cream between thick, chocolate-covered graham crackers. The bar, meanwhile, was among the first in town to jump on the craft-mixology bandwagon, pouring not only vintage cocktails but infusions and concoctions boasting the likes of muddled avocado, roasted peaches and toothache flower. |
