Oasis Restaurant Review: Oasis offers an array of tasty Mediterranean dishes, including chicken shwarma, but those in the know come here for dishes from chef Karim BenBrahim’s native Morocco. This is a place to relax with the authentic tea service and share an order of makouda---akin to a potato fritter---or enjoy a bowl of house-made vegan soup such as the lentil and garbanzo. For a main course, the beef and potatoes tagine is still our favorite, but you won’t go wrong with any of the couscous dishes (available as vegan or with Halal-certified meat whenever possible), or the charbroiled fish in saffron, especially if it’s local halibut. Dessert options include baklava or selou, a Moroccan halva, but we like to return to the appetizer menu for the chicken/almond/cinnamon pastry known as b’stilla---even though this version isn’t exactly what you’d find in Morocco, it still captures the sweet, savory and textural aspects of the cuisine. Note that Oasis does not serve alcohol, and that the same menu is available for both lunch and dinner. |
