THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Ocean at Main Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant & décor: Nestled in downtown Laguna Beach, this charming restaurant has a light color scheme and bright, slightly Baja-kissed patio that effortlessly dial into the neighborhood’s famously breezy bustle. It’s a setting that makes it easy to indulge in a cocktail or two, but it’s also one that marks a new chapter in the career of chef-owner Craig Strong, whose work as executive chef at Montage Laguna Beach’s flagship restaurant Studio made him a cherished OC culinary commodity. Those familiar with Strong’s Studio days will instantly recognize his craftsmanship, but they’ll see it presented in a more relaxed and accessible package that connects with the area’s casual, chill vibe.

Likes: The breezy outdoor patio.
Dislikes: The bar area feels a tad too isolated.

Food & Drinks: Starters like the oxtail risotto with Parmigiano-Reggiano and kale purée have bold yet exemplary balanced flavors, while the cauliflower ratatouille accompanying the charred Spanish octopus highlights Strong’s talent with his garden-grown ingredients. Entrées such as the spiced cod with crispy calamari, grilled pork secreto with date-banana purée, and seared king salmon with roasted mushrooms reference fine dining without sacrificing approachability. The warm apple crisp with lemon-pecan crumble is essential at meal’s end. The wine list contains a smart selection of international heavyweights and fun boutique options. On weekends, guests can dig into indulgent brunch items like brioche french toast and rib-eye steak and eggs.
