THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Oceans Restaurant Review:
With the departure of chef Rex Hale, the restaurant at Sea Cliffs has turned into just one more hotel dining room with a view---though we must admit that the view is magnificent. Rarely does the latest incarnation of the menu stray from middle-of-the-road Continental fare. Grilled fish and steak dishes are served with uninspired vegetable sides. Though the chef gets somewhat creative with sauces, he relies a bit too much on heavy cream and butter---the dieter's worst nightmare. Since entrée prices often exceed $20 per plate, we'd expect a bit more from this spot. Until something changes, however, we'd recommend taking advantage of the Early Bird menu (served from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.); that's what everyone else does. If you must splurge, go for the Sunday brunch.
