Oven and Shaker Restaurant Review

: A wood-fired oven provides the focal point of Oven and Shaker’s narrow storefront, while dark furnishings and discrete lighting lend panache. Pizza is the focus, the crisp-crusted, almost burnt style, with creative toppings ranging from truffles, octopus, pork belly, asparagus, fennel-sausage and --- in a riff on humble ham and pineapple --- pork shoulder and pineapple. That said, you may order anything from a quick bar snack (salumi plate, mussel and oyster fritters, fried chickpeas) accompanied by a craft cocktail, glass of wine or lavender soda to a full meal. The Nostrana salad, a Caesar variation with radicchio in place of romaine, is an homage to presiding chef Cathy Whims’ second restaurant. For dessert, don't miss the classic brownie sundae. Weekend brunch offers a small but unusual selection of dishes, including a gravlax plate and a ham and duck egg pizza. Be prepared to wait, although you may leave your phone number and stroll to nearby shops until your table is ready.
