P.F. Chang’s---part of a large upscale chain---dishes up a refreshing alternative to the sauce-heavy Chinese fare you’d find in a local strip mall. The open, bi-level space is subtly lighted and features decorative Chinese sculptures and murals. The menu is not all that vast, but it offers a sizable selection of well-prepared and reasonably priced contemporary dishes. Start with either the lettuce wraps made from spiced chicken or dumplings, made fresh daily and either steamed or pan-fried. Once you move past the starters, you’ll find a bevy of Asian renditions of shrimp, beef, chicken, lo mein and fried rice. Specialties include Hunan pork sizzled with red and green bell peppers, onions and snow peas as well as Mongolian beef that's tossed with scallions and garlic. Most entrées are available with either white or brown rice, a nice---and healthy---change of pace.
