 Pamplemousse Grille has become a standard for excellence in the North County. Chef Jeffrey Strauss had years of experience as a New York caterer before gracing San Diego with his expertise. Drop into this casually elegant spot for lunch and enjoy baked goat cheese and oven-roasted shiitakes with seasonal greens or tomato confit with avocado and crab meat. Dinner gets more sumptuous; we prefer the Fanny Bay oysters on the half-shell, mixed grill of game (smoked Muscovy duck breast, lemon thyme quail and baby rack of venison au poivre) and chocolate-pecan bread pudding. Strauss also runs a series of wine dinners each month---a terrific value for anyone interested in tasting fine wine and hobnobbing with the beautiful people.
