Pecking Order Restaurant Review

: Kristine Subido is a creative type. Her cuisine at Wave offered proof of that. But rather than featuring global fare, she’s focusing on one thing at her Ravenswood spot: chicken. Alongside her mother, Melinda, she’s making all-natural birds using a family recipe with tamari, cane sugar, garlic and vinegar and prepping them grilled, twice-fried, or lemon grass ginger-stuffed and roasted. Each version is a standout, and the sides --- tomato-ginger green beans; jícama, green papaya, carrot, ginger and daikon pickles; and sweet fried plantains with jackfruit chutney --- are not to be missed. Don’t skip the other options either, from sandwiches to comforting egg noodles tangled with roasted chicken and bok choy. For dessert, it’s halo halo shaved ice all the way. There’s also a nice lineup of boozy punches, plus a small wine and beer list.
