Petros Restaurant Review

: Chef-owner Petros Benekos established his eponymous Greek restaurant in Manhattan Beach, Calif., and has since expanded with locations in Santa Barbara and at Fess Parker's Wine Country Inn & Spa in Los Olivos. The space features cozy fireplaces, a bar area and lounge, bright dining room and patio. Begin with one of his pita-friendly dips, highlighted by melitzanosalata, a blend of roasted eggplant, garlic and lemon that arrives dusted with crushed walnuts. Another suggested starter is the warm sesame-crusted feta topped with golden raisins. At lunch, chicken souvlaki pairs juicy char-grilled breast meat with tangy tzatziki. Dinner entrées include a feta-crusted rack of lamb with a sauce of tomato and olive. While Greek fare is the restaurant’s primary offering, you’ll also find cultural amalgams like a pizza topped with tomatoes, olives, avocado and feta; even the classically Hellenic moussaka is made with French béchamel sauce. The standout dessert is bougatsa, a vanilla and semolina custard that is sheathed in phyllo, sprinkled with cinnamon and partnered with cinnamon ice cream.
