Elephant Jumps Restaurant Review:

Trendy Thai dishes with a nod to some of this country’s more traditional fare constitute the menu at this extremely small restaurant. Lines out the door may signal its popularity, but also a shortage of seating. The food tricks us with its sleight of hand. The Lady Dancing appetizer looks and sounds glamorous, but the skewered shrimp lack the traditional flavors of shrimp satay, the inspiration for this dish. Even the chicken with coconut rice, a classic dish, lacks the earthiness of coconut milk in the rice, and the chicken is too thin for much flavor. The crispy tilapia with fried Thai basil may be a better choice, but if you order this, ask the staff for more of the chili sauce topping. You’ll know how trendy the menu is when you spot dishes such as a burrito satay chicken and a croissant green curry sandwich, both of which underscore the “East Meets West” mindset. Traditionalists might not applaud, but if you want to experience experimental cooking, add dining at this restaurant to your to-do list.
