Piedmont Restaurant Review:

Piedmont is located in an unpretentious warehouse space near the Durham farmers market. Hard surfaces and high ceilings make the dining room noisier than we would like, but the food makes up for it. The restaurant partners with a local farm, and crafts dishes using the freshest produce and artisanal goods. On any given evening, one may find such appetizers as charred ramps and fiddlehead ferns with cheese or beet-pickled eggs with pimento cheese. Entrées may include braised pork with fava beans and radicchio, rockfish with rice grits and country ham broth, and a rib-eye steak with smoked potato butter and braised greens. Lemon hibiscus cheesecake with a pistachio crust or chocolate chess pie with burnt orange ice cream have appeared among the seasonal desserts. The fairly extensive wine list showcases small American and European producers, paying special attention to wines that are sustainable, organic or biodynamic in their manner of production.
