This Ladera Ranch spot may be located in a suburban strip mall, but the vibrant ambience is infectious, as is the food. There’s a rather elegant dining room and a romantic patio. It’s hard to track down good Spanish food in OC, so Picante is a pretty rare find. The tapas menu can make for a meal unto itself, with dishes like baby artichoke fritti stuffed with goat cheese or goat cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon. For entrées, choose among the several types of paella, or look to the variety of meat and seafood dishes. The wine list, por supesto, features mostly Spanish producers.
