 Prairie Schooner Steakhouse Restaurant Review: You can almost hear the crickets chirp as you dine in mock-ups of the back-end of an Old West wagon train. These "prairie schooners" surround a desert panorama of stuffed coyotes, fake campfires and glowing lanterns. Themed restaurants don't have to mean commissary-grade food. The Prairie Schooner not only charms with its ambience and delights any child, but also stimulates your appetite for items like bacon-wrapped filets and spicy marinated chicken breasts. We know you're tempted, but avoid the chicken-fried steak, which is often on the tough side. The prime rib, burgers and salmon, however, are tender and flavorful. All dinners come with salad, prairie bread and potatoes---just like they would on a dude ranch. But order that sticky-sweet caramel apple pie and you might regret yielding to temptation. As good as it is, there's probably no room left for it and one more sip of the bottomless glass of homemade lemonade. |
