| Chef Tiffany Derry made herself a household name after appearing on Season 7 of Bravo's Top Chef, where she was voted Fan Favorite for her implacable calm. Now she's helming her own restaurant, partnering with entrepreneurs Andy Austin and Patrick Halbert. Private Social has two distinct themes: Private is a traditional dining room with full menu and Social is a lounge with smaller shared plates. The menu spotlights seafood, the cuisine for which Derry became known at her last appointment at Go Fish in North Dallas, but with the Southern accents Derry learned first-hand growing up in Beaumont, Texas. Think fried chicken with hot pepper sauce and braised greens. The menu changes seasonally but features a signature dish: the Momofuku-esque Top Chef pork buns, with crisp-edged pork belly nestled inside a chewy white roll. The wine list was composed by consulting sommelier D'Lynn Proctor. The restaurant occupies a highly visible location on McKinney Avenue in Uptown, with a see-and-be-seen patio in front. No expense has been spared on the décor, with zebra wood tabletops, leather chairs and plush banquettes in the dining room; the lounge feels more urban with concrete floors and stone bar. |
