THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Public Restaurant Review

: One would suspect a cavernous, industrial restaurant setting in SoMa to echo and distract from intimate dining: not so here. A clever, lofted interior tucks serious noshers up near the exposed-beam and concrete ceiling (complete with sexy, modern chandeliers crafted from sly bits of lingerie), and the addition of dozens of candles create a warming, romantic effect. Nimble servers pander cheerfully to the hip scene’s culled crowd---hot dates, large dining parties and a lounge of sophisticates stretched out on sateen sofas near the full bar below. The food is a surprising treat---a subtle balance of flavors from the tiny kitchen helmed by chef Rich Chang. Cocoa-dusted, soy-glazed baby-back ribs, for example, are never too sweet and unwrap beautifully from the bone. Fried puffs of Dungeness crab and chunked rock shrimp are touched up with green papaya and house-made mustard-mango coulis. A memorable duck sugo is rich and plump with meat, carried well by broad pappardelle. Try the excellent fluted, French Kiss cocktail mixed with brut and gin; for dessert, the warm chocolate bread pudding is sublimely met by white chocolate gelato and espresso crème anglaise.
