| A dark wood interior, heavy wrought iron chairs, and cement floors create a noisy setting at this branch of Purple Café. But this hardly deters patrons from exploring an extensive wine list with options from the Northwest and beyond. Flights, glasses or bottles are available, and knowledgeable servers answer questions and help select appropriate pairings. Small and large plates are creative and designed to complement the wine. Choose from soups, sandwiches and salads, including a roasted beet salad with oranges and toasted pistachios. Pastas feature lobster mac ‘n’ cheese and a rich wild boar Bolognese. Pizzas lean towards the non-traditional with contemporary pairings such as fig with caramelized onion and toasted walnuts. A larger entrée favorite is "duck two ways"---pan-seared and duck confit. Sweet finishes are as small as salted caramels or as substantial as a seasonal fruit shortcake made with a homemade biscuit. |
