Radial, which has “Green Restaurant” status, appeals to neighborhood denizens who favor it particularly for weekend brunch. Big slices of french toast dusted with powdered sugar might be the best dish, especially with either pure maple syrup or a house-made fruit sauce (perhaps strawberry and rhubarb). Grits and andouille sausage make a good bed for poached eggs (always cage-free). Weekday menus focus more on sandwiches. Vegetarians and vegans are warmly attended. The dinner menu reaches again to Southern classics, including Georgia trout with sweet potato hash, fish and grits with tilapia, and slow-braised pork made from locally raised meat. (The word “local” appears often on this menu.) Desserts reach back into tradition, too, with a caramel cake like your Grandma used to make, but vegans (and others) should note the vegan chocolate cake. A short but sensibly priced wine list and a brief beer menu with lots of local options round out the quaffs.
