| Rei do Gado is an Atkins dieter's dream come true. This all-you-can-eat churrascaria (a.k.a. Brazilian barbecue) in the Gaslamp serves meat, meat and more meat. Pork, chicken, beef and lamb are prepared in twelve different fashions. Waiters parade around the dining room with kebabs offering slices of sausage, chunks of churrasquinho (marinated beef), baby-back ribs and spicy pork. And although diners can experience as much (or as little) protein as their stomachs can handle, the ample salad and side dish bar also offers vegetarians a menagerie of meat-free fare such as marinated white asparagus, eggplant casserole, green bean salad and feijoada (a traditional Brazilian bean soup). The dessert bar is our least favorite part of Rei do Gado---it highlights favorites from around the globe such as flan, tiramisu, apple pie and passion fruit mousse---but who has room for sugar after a meal like this? |
