Even though restaurateur Matt Rimel has gone on to local fame with the chic Zenbu and Koi, we still love his namesake flagship eatery. Freshness and consistency keep the tiny restaurant packed with regulars---so thank goodness for the spacious patio. We recommend the classic: hormone-free, grain-fed rotisserie chicken with your choice of herb-roasted red potatoes, garlic-mashed potatoes or black beans and rice. Grilled over mesquite wood, each combo comes with a selection of sauces: sweet pepper, sriracha, green chile, garlic, peanut, salsa fresca and barbecue. In season, we like to order the Baja-style lobster with rice, beans and warm tortillas. Other mainstays are the grilled mahi mahi tacos (two corn tortillas stuffed with grilled fish, cabbage and sauce) and the steaming rice bowls (with freshly stir-fried veggies and choice of rotisserie chicken, filet mignon, turkey breast or calamari). Kid- and pet-friendly, Rimel’s has a comfortable atmosphere and hometown feel.
