| This riverfront restaurant is one of the few upscale choices in Old Sacramento. Designed to replicate a turn-of-the-century steamship warehouse, Rio City Café maintains its historic charm while providing a rustic elegance. It is a good choice for an upscale meal after a day of sightseeing, and the outdoor deck offers a welcome respite from the hordes of tourists and souvenir shops. The cuisine is simple Californian, with an emphasis on seasonal, local ingredients. Starters include bacon-wrapped shrimp and eggplant fries, while mains range from grilled salmon with cannellini bean casserole and andouille sausage to coconut rum chicken with fried plantains and slow-roasted short rib with mashed potatoes. Wash it all down with one of the many California wines. |
