Dining room at Rosebud, Atlanta, GAWhen Food 101 Morningside’s executive chef Ron Eyester bought this unit from his employer, he reached to the Grateful Dead for his name inspiration. “Rosebud” was the name of Jerry Garcia’s favorite guitar. Eyester is quite tied into the local farm-to-table scene, as the restaurant sits adjacent to the Morningside Farmers Market that convenes every Saturday morning, so he’s able to purchase directly from some of the area’s best farmers. So while the lovely, crisp calamari may come from Point Judith, Rhode Island, the chicken hails out of Springer Mountain in north Georgia. Dairy products come from Sparkman’s Cream Valley in Moultrie, Georgia. Southern flavors come in the quite classical house-made pimento cheese and the spiced pecans adorning the scallop and arugula salad. Our favorite brunch dish on the huge brunch menu is the fried oysters topping grits and benne seed chicken gravy with a poached egg perched atop the whole business. A delight is the Mexican Coca-Cola on the beverages menu. Why? It’s made with real sugar, and not high-fructose corn syrup. The wine list is smart, if not exciting, and well priced.
