Roux on Orleans Restaurant Review: Although some hotel dining rooms in New Orleans have become destination restaurants, Roux is primarily suited for hotel guests who do not wish to venture out. Situated in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, almost in the exact center of the French Quarter, Roux on Orleans’ intimate dining room serves what could best be described as Creole comfort food, but the downside is a lack of originality. Although the room is lovely, with its traditional Southern décor and muted colors, the menu, while serviceable, is not imaginative enough to distinguish the restaurant in any way. All of the usual local suspects are in line --- gumbo, catfish, salads, burgers, sandwiches, steak and more --- but nothing excels as a notable preparation. Even desserts are run of the mill: bread pudding, cheesecake. The only surprise is the complexity of the wine list, which offers everything from basic selections to a few top-shelf choices that one would expect to find in a venue of more distinction.
