Unfortunately, the decidedly mundane setting in an equally flat shopping center drag down what should be an uplifting dining experience, given the quality of the food and the almost hyper waitstaff. This place bustles because it does a lot of business and is intent on being a fun restaurant with enough pow to tickle the taste buds, and that requires a lot of energy. The food is innovative and fresh, and blends Japanese, French, Chinese, Italian and Pan-Asian influences without losing the unique flavors and textures. It also manages to work in local-style elements like sashimi, grilled meats, and island fish and vegetables. By cobbling together several items you can make a stimulating, eclectic meal, and we've never been disappointed in the food. It's just that Roy's seems a bit citified and sophisticated for a rural shopping center. But if you can overlook the setting, you'll likely be pleased with what's on your plate. The wine list is virtually a copy of Roy's Honolulu list and reasonably priced.
