Ruth Fertel mortgaged her home back in 1965 to buy a little steakhouse in an old New Orleans neighborhood. More than 40 years later, Ruth's Chris Steak House is a Prime beef empire. This branch is in the Top of Troy Building. With stern warnings to keep your hands on your lap, the staff serves your steak at a searing 500 degrees. You can hear it coming before it's placed, sizzling with melted butter, in front of you. The clubby atmosphere attracts businessmen at lunchtime. Those who celebrate in style come for the porterhouse for two and Champagne after the sun sets. Although the steaks are generously cut, we recommend you also try a taste of New Orleans with the shrimp rémoulade cocktail, au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach. A classic Creole crème brûlée provides a delicate finish. |
