Saffron Indian Bistro Restaurant Review: Saffron exudes old-world charm and a new-world sensibility. Start with the lightly battered saffron shrimp enhanced with coriander, ground cumin and just a hint of heat from mild chiles, or perhaps a chicken samosa or two. Move on to the ajwain fish, warm and tender from the tandoor oven. And we’d never turn down the rogan josh, chunks of lamb, all smoky and tender, and the fragrant saffron rice. A dozen breads from garlic naan to pudina paratha --- wheat bread layered with mint --- balance the spicy entrées. Other faves include chicken tikka masala and baingan bharta, a subtly spiced eggplant dish. And while there is a full selection of wines available, we usually opt for a cold, crisp Indian beer, an ideal foil to the heat. |
