Woolloomooloo Wharf, despite its tough-to-spell name, is a Sydney dining destination, with its sparkling water view and panorama of city skyline, plus a slew of relaxed yet hot restaurants and cafés. Chef Alex Ensor, flying solo for the first time, has been groomed for just such a role for years, with time at Guillaume at Bennelong and Forty One. Now he has a chance to make his own mark. The menu might include dishes that nod politely in the general direction of the Mediterranean while staying firmly based on good Australian produce. Look for dishes such as yabby ravioli served with caramelized (seasonal) figs or a kilogram of “stockyard” Wagyu rib-eye for two. The wine list stands up nicely to the food with a large selection from France, many available by the glass. The tapas menu is a good option; it’s available from noon daily until dinner finishes and is ideal eaten outdoors as you soak up that view.
