Samdan Restaurant Review: Samdan’s dining room may be traditional, but the extensive menu of Middle Eastern and Turkish fare is exotic. It is always authentic and fresh, and offered at prices so low that one is tempted to over-order just to sample the interesting dishes. Mezes, the little plates, excel and can easily be collated into a very filling dinner. There’s acili ezme, a mixture of hot and spicy, finely chopped vegetables and walnuts; baba ghanouj; tarama, the famous red fish egg spread; and midye dolma, black and shiny mussels stuffed with rice and herbs. A basketful of fresh, warm pita is always brought to the table. We also recommend entrées such as the adana kebab---skewers of ground beef, hot and smoky from the charcoal grill---or pirzola, fragrant, tender broiled baby lamb chops. The yogurt kebabs are yet another choice, grilled and layered with flavor. Don’t pass on dessert, such as the kadayif, a shredded wheat with walnut confection topped with pistachios. The service is helpful and friendly though sometimes overwhelmed by the crowds of patrons who flock here.
