Shokudo Japanese Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review: When this ultra-modern restaurant and bar first opened, people weren't sure what to make of the not-quite-traditional spin Shokudo puts on Japanese fare. It's now a must-try spot, and the crowd shifts with the time of day from shoppers at lunch, families in the early evening and pre-clubbers later at night. Try the house-made tofu, unique mochi cheese gratin and, of course, any of the fusion sushi selections: lobster dynamite rolls, sushi pizza (with nori as the "crust"), spicy tuna on crispy rice, or balsamic beef tataki, to name a few. Be sure to check the saké offerings as they always have at least one or two that are unique. The drink is served in a traditional wooden saké box atop a drift of shimmering shave ice crystals; a tantalizing yet practical presentation. Don't miss the honey toast dessert --- two thick slices of bread hollowed-out, the pieces cubed, tossed in butter and honey, then piled back into the crust along with ice cream --- an oddly tasty treat. A most important tip: The images on the menu are deceiving; the portions are much larger than they appear, so order accordingly.
