Slow Restaurant is one of our 2011 Top 40 Cheap Eats in the US.
 Located on Berkeley's University Avenue, Slow is one of a handful of small eateries focused on providing a more thoughtful and healthful answer to the downtown glut of quick-service restaurants. Chef Kyle Anderson has opened a cozy spot where customers don't have to sacrifice nutrition and quality for what can be, despite the name, a relatively fast meal ordered over the counter for takeaway or eat-in service. Bright lemon-colored walls and wood accents give the interior the feel of a summer harvest. The menu is subject to daily changes according to what's in season and available locally (the cornerstones of Slow's mission) but typically includes salads and flatbread sandwiches for lunch and heartier entrées for dinner. A pulled pork sandwich on Acme ciabatta barely needs chewing and is given a pleasant buzz with the addition of a chili-spiked pineapple compote. A daily "puffed bread" selection might include meaty crimini mushrooms, mozzarella and goat cheese.
