THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Slurping Turtle Restaurant Review:

Takashi Yagihashi (Takashi, Noodles by Takashi Yagihashi) knows his way around a bowl of noodles --- that much was already clear. But his River North hotspot takes Takashi’s Sunday noodle service and makes it available to the masses, many of whom also come for small plates (duck fat-fried chicken, steamed dumplings). Accordingly, the setting is sleek with a long, communal table running the length of the dining room, which is offset by more intimate banquettes. If you get one thing, make it the singeing tan tan men noodles, crafted from a complex, russet-hued broth. But don’t pass by items from the bincho grill --- starting with the glistening pork belly. (There are a lot of less-common options, too, like quail with quail eggs and chicken heart.) Sashimi is spot-on as one would expect, so make fast tracks for the baby octopus, shrimp, squid and scallop ceviche with yuzu dressing. For dessert, macarons are a must, as is the sea salt soft ice cream. Heck, get a pillow-like green tea cream puff, too. Beer, saké and wine complete the first-come, first-served experience. Don't forget to bring the tykes; with big booths and accommodating servers, the restaurant isn't a bad family option.
