Smoke Modern Barbeque Restaurant Review: Macaroni and cheese at this citified barbecue spot in Basalt is the stuff of adult fantasies --- if the child in you longs for an iconic bowl of elbow noodles arriving all gussied up with smoky pulled pork, specks of fresh jalapeños and spring onions. Nor can we pass up the broiled oysters, fresh corn muffins slathered with cane-syrup butter, or deviled eggs. But that’s just for starters. If you show up with a gaggle of starving friends the way the locals do, you can load up your table with a smorgasbord of bona-fide Southern staples --- pork spareribs, beef brisket, garlic-rubbed chicken, smoked prime rib, cornmeal-fried catfish --- and stuff yourself silly. Look for specials as well, be it Cajun-rubbed rib-eye or andouille-crusted striped bass. Grab a heap of napkins, raise a shot of bourbon or a local beer, and toast to good old-fashioned American 'cue with smokin' contemporary flourishes. And if you’re too full for banana pudding afterward, come back for brunch and get the bananas Foster french toast instead. PS: There’s also a location in Glenwood Springs.
