The Square Grouper Bar & Grill Restaurant Review: In local parlance, a square grouper is a bale of marijuana which fishermen occasionally “caught” in their traps. Taking liberties with the term, this restaurant is square from its napkin holders to plates to coffee cups. They proudly serve local seafood “smoked, baked and fried,” with a wink. But this is above all a warm, welcoming and merry spot, family-friendly and accommodating. No one seems to mind the wait, and no wonder: the food is worth it. Dig into house smoked tuna in a spicy wonton bowl; Caribbean chicken over sweet potato hash; the Square Grouper seafood stew; roasted duck breast with tamarind-garlic sauce; or creative whims of the day, including blue plate lunch specials. For dessert, there’s chocolate-peanut butter pie or turtle fondue so good you'll want to shout --- or at least resign to wait in line again tomorrow. |
