THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Star House Restaurant Review

: This tiny establishment in a North County suburb isn’t much to look at, but we commend it for two attributes: The co-proprietor who assumes full dining room duties and is consistently friendly and delightful, and a menu that is different from the competition and cooked with both care and flair. While most local eateries tone down the heat of so-called Szechuan dishes until they have no more bite than Mickey Mouse, Star House takes the point of view that authentic dishes require authentic ingredients, and the sensational pan-fried noodles in Singapore hot sauce are indeed spicy hot. They’re a favorite of ours, as are simple dishes like the shrimp with Chinese greens, and more complicated specialties like the sweetheart spicy chicken. We don’t claim that a dinner at Star House constitutes a big night on the town, but we do believe that the Chinese food may be the best available north of the Asian restaurant row on San Diego’s Convoy Street, and we always anticipate a meal here with pleasure.
