Surrey's Cafe & Juice Bar Restaurant Review: With “heavy” foods so pervasive in New Orleans, it’s nice to find a neighborhood restaurant that excels in healthful fare. Breakfast and lunch offerings at Surrey’s are more ambitious than one might expect. In the morning, you can get not only biscuits and gravy and egg dishes, but also plump Gulf shrimp with grits, and Mexican-style migas with egg, corn chips and pico de gallo. At lunchtime, smoked oysters and such specials as strawberry soup add intriguing options alongside the sandwiches. Corned beef hash, which gets a New Orleans touch with andouille and boudin, is another popular dish. If some of those items do not sound particularly healthful, try the salad with locally grown organic produce and mix-your-own fresh-pressed juices and locally roasted coffees that draw newspaper-readers and health-minded patrons alike.
