| Located in a strip mall in the boonies, Sushi Mania has been around for years and is the type of warm, friendly place where locals go to grab take-out orders or feast on a few rolls at the sushi bar after work. The casual restaurant attracts such loyal repeat business in two ways: the first is that the owners treat everybody who enters like family, which is a refreshing change of pace in sometimes nameless-and-faceless Silicon Valley. The second is by offering a mix of both modernized sushi creations and more traditional Japanese fare. Some of the more exotic rolls worth trying include the Cholesterol Bomb No. 2, with tuna, flying fish roe and quail egg; and the Philadelphia, with cheese, salmon, cucumber, shrimp and flying fish roe. The San Francisco Roll, a mix of eel, salmon, cucumber, shrimp and flying fish roe, is topnotch. The restaurant also does a good job with its donburi and udon, and sukiyaki nabe, featuring slices of tender beef and fresh veggies in a semi-sweet sauce, is also a favorite. |
