Sleek wood and steel accents along with traditional Japanese decor and one of the longest sushi bars in town make Sushi Sappora as much a treat for the eyes as the mouth. Be sure to try at least one of chef Sei Onani's signature rolls; we like the East-meets-West versions like the Santa Fe with eel, avocado and asparagus, and the Oyster 'Po' Maki made with deep-fried oysters and jalapeños. All the bits of sushi and sashimi we tried were exceedingly fresh and artfully arranged. There are plenty of offerings from the yakitori and teriyaki parts of the menu for those not in the mood for raw fish. The roasted Scottish salmon is a winner, succulent fish delicately roasted with savory teriyaki sauce. Bacon-scallop yakitori is a winning take on this traditional dish; plump scallops wrapped in bacon are grilled to perfection with a delicate glaze of teriyaki sauce. If you must, there is a karaoke bar upstairs on the weekends; luckily you can still dine in peace downstairs.
