Sweet Melissa Restaurant Review: Sweet Melissa has a bright, trendy vibe that serves as the backdrop for a menu crafted using fresh, organic ingredients. Pale maple floors, exposed brick walls and shiny copper ceilings with halogen spotlights set the tone for this restaurant and bakery, where lunchtime highlights a variety of wraps, small plates and sandwiches (Jenna’s grilled cheese with fried green tomatoes and apple wood-smoked bacon is a favorite). For dinner, there are plenty of stick-to-your-ribs comfort plates, including a bacon-wrapped meatloaf sided by whipped potatoes and garlicky spinach. Though salads, appetizers and soups are also available, the beautifully decorated sweets --- cakes, cookies, pies and chocolate-covered strawberries --- are among the main draws; grab what looks good since they rotate frequently. Beyond the dessert case, Sweet Melissa’s weekend brunch is a hot ticket, too, so be prepared to wait for a table. Once seated, order the corned beef hash or the Sonja bagel with grilled salmon, fried eggs, avocado and goat cheese. Service is spotty, especially when they’re busy, so be sure to bring an extra dose of patience.
