Tabrizi's Restaurant Review

: Circa 1990, Michael Tabrizi’s Federal Hill bistro was a real innovation, offering both authentic Middle Eastern fare and Mediterranean classics in romantic European surroundings. This fusion pioneer was a sensation, making it all the more surprising when Tabrizi abruptly left the business a few years later --- and all the more cheering that he, and his nouvelle-Mediterranean oeuvre, returned to Baltimore. Located in a marina community with a striking harbor view, this Tabrizi’s is a low-key beauty, finished with honey-colored stone and blond wood, and boasting an open kitchen. In contrast to the room’s elegant neutrals, the food is colorful and eclectic, with organic vegetables garnishing dishes as varied as pan-seared chicken breast and grilled salmon over sautéed Belgian endive and Stilton cream. For diners who’d like a lighter bite, Tabrizi’s offers an assortment of small plates, pastas, and even a Persian-accented burger. Customers take note: Tabrizi’s has taken off as a wedding venue, so many dates, especially Saturdays, are booked. Definitely call ahead to make sure you can be seated.

A true hidden gem

I have visited Tabrizi's several times and I enjoyed it every time. The winter indoors has it's own charm and in the season the outdoor patio is very unique, very relaxed and very water front! Service is very good (I might say that the kitchen is too small to produce a large output considering the size of the restaurant) based on my previous experience in various kitchens since I do it for a living. We had hummus, baba, Tabbouleh, Grilled stuffed grape leaves, Tuna Tartar and the stuffed Avocado with lump crab meat and Aioli, the flavors were very fresh and tasty, you can tell by their freshness. The entrees were Sea bass (not Cod), a nice center cut of filt tenderloin in Tarragon -mushrooms Cognac sauce, fingerling potatoes and grilled rack of Lamb over mixed freshly cut vegetables such as aspargaus, cherry tomatoes, fennel, carrots and Arugula salad with lemon oil. We had several white and red wines and the service was prompt, attentive and very accomodating.
