THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Taco Brat Restaurant Review:
This funky Costa Mesa spot would be a perfect fit amongst the unique eateries that line the city’s bustling 17th Street. Instead, it’s in the renovated confines of an old taqueria a couple miles up the road, where open-air seating, an outdoor bar and the occasional game of cornhole set a refreshingly chill mood. The atmosphere allows guests to ease into owner-executive chef Thomas Curran’s hybrid menu of Mexican and German fare, a style the chef dubs “GerMexican.” Both cuisines are represented on their own in the form of tacos, bratwursts and unique items like the applesauce-topped fried potato dish known as kartoffelpuffer. Choose from a few fusion items worth checking out, too, such as the smoked kielbasa with agave lime slaw and cotija. Make sure to grab a fried pie for dessert if they aren’t sold out for the day. Beer and cocktails anchor the list of libations, and there is also a compact list of wines to consider.
