THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED T'afia Restaurant Review:
T'afia stars chef Monica Pope, featured on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters in 2010. The cleverly restored brick building housing the restaurant, around the corner from the hip Continental Club, only adds to this trendy side of downtown. Starkly industrial chic, the concrete-floored dining room has bare white tables dressed with mismatched silver and tiny glowing candles. The menu highlighting local produce is just as edgy. Push the envelope by starting with sunchoke soup swirled with first-pressed nut oil. From the protein side, pick wild steelhead salmon; gold-spotted sea bass; or Pope’s famous crispy flattened chicken with a breaded coating, flash-fried. For a head-spinning culinary experience, put yourself in Pope’s capable hands and try the local market tasting menu that might include Texas-raised quail or venison flank steak paired with Texas wines. Carrot cake is our favorite finale. Come back for the Saturday morning Midtown farmers market in the T'afia parking lot and stock up on homegrown goodies.
